It is part of the hair growth cycle. The 10% of our hair which is in a resting phase would fall out every 2 or 3 months with 90% of the hair in a growth phase. When the hair fall is in excess of the usual limits, people get concerned. These include: Plenty of reasons cause hair loss. Identifiable with one or more spots of hair loss on the scalp. This is usually caused by an immunity disorder when the intrinsic white cells attack the hair follicles. Alopecia Totalis occurs when all of the scalp hair is lost. A rare condition sometimes occurs called Alopecia Universalis which involves complete loss of hair from the body.

Genetic reasons: Called male pattern baldness, this can affect about 25% of men by the time they are 30. Though the reason is genetic another contributing factor is testosterone the male hormone. One of the functions of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is produced by the conversion of testosterone, causes impairment or stoppage of hair growth and produces short and weak hair. Men who do not have testosterone do not get male pattern baldness.
Skin diseases: this can affect the scalp and be the reason for hair loss. The particular skin conditions which cause hair loss include: dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, scalp fungus such as ringworm and tinea captis.
Sudden illness or fever: hair can come off in large tufts after an illness or fever. This is a temporary condition.
The other common conditions which can also result in hair loss include: Childbirth, menopause, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and aging. Apart from these reasons, there are several others too.
Treating hair loss can be done successfully by which you not only stop hair fall but help in re-growth too. A few of the natural hair loss treatments include:
1. Including vitamins A, B, C and E would accelerate new hair growth. Why are these vitamins important for hair loss? Their beneficial actions include: providing sebum, improving blood circulation to the scalp by increasing absorption of oxygen and collagen.
2. Scalp care Massage your scalp with herbal oils such as olive oil, jojoba oil, amla oil. Some conditions of alopecia areata can be effectively treated with essential oils of thyme, rosemary, lavender and cedar wood.
3. Scalp abuse: Chemical shampoos and blow drying are to be avoided. You can severely damage hair and scalp by coloring as well as straightening. Even daily hair wash with hot water can damage the hair and scalp as hair then turns brittle and the natural oils dry up.
4. Switch to herbal therapy: Powders of amla, shikakai, henna and ritha as shampoo and conditioner could provide you with a natural and herbal option to treat hair loss. This is also the richest source of natural vitamin C. Also known as the Fruit for hair, shikakai is known for its low pH and can make a great shampoo which cleanses hair without removing any natural oil. Then you could use henna which acts as a natural conditioner.
5. Bring lifestyle changes: Reduce stress, an important factor in hair loss. Do this by doing exercises and meditation. Say No to Smoking: Did you know that nicotine from smoking narrows the blood vessels which supply blood to the scalp? Avoid excessive sun exposure as UV rays can burn and damage the scalp.
